Safe Healthy Homes

Many home owners, and potential homes buyers, think of one thing when it comes to home security, and that is their financial investment. We often take for granted the fact that a home itself may actually not be a safe place for ourselves and our families due to several factors. When you are looking at a certain piece of Red Hook real estate or at any real estate in Vancouver, it is important to keep the health of yourself and your family in mind.

That might seem like stating the obvious, but the truth is Vancouver has a real estate market like nowhere else in the world. The recent popularity of the survey Crack Shack or Million Dollar Home proved this beyond a shadow of a doubt. Many homes which were run down slums in other cities were selling for a million dollars here in Vancouver. They needed sludge removal, windows, wall repair, and countless other renovations but the real estate market here is so high that people would still pay seven figures to purchase them. Can you imagine what might be hidden in a home here that looks all right?

The best way to find out if a home is going to be safe for yourself and your family before you buy it is to enlist the services of a home inspector. Because of the hot market which still exists in Vancouver, there are plenty of inspectors out there who can do a good job. They will take a look at a potential piece of real estate and tell you if there is a problem with thermal insulation materials, leaky roofs, the foundation, and other common complaints that home owners have. In any other market you might be reluctant to pay the fee, but when it is measured against the price tag of homes here, it starts to look like really good value.

In some ways, Vancouver is not too much different from Toronto real estate. Condos are big sellers here, and the newer they are the more popular. Even with new condos, though, there can be health and safety concerns, particularly when the location of these condos is considered. Again, don't leave anything to chance.

Finally, keep in mind that lead products were popular in decor materials prior to 1975. Almost all the older homes in the area used lead based paint, which could pose problems for your family. Make sure you know what is on your walls before you buy!
